Horror Haikus

Horror Haikus

Instructions enclosed:
Do not expose to Sunlight,
No crucifixes.

A full moon rises.
Prepare for the next big meal,
Fresh meat- not from cans.

Doctor, will this work?
A good fit to patch your doll?
Will it fix the eyes?

Long strands of algae.
Dragged up to rot on the beach
Almost looks human.

The window curtains
Quiver with no winds tonight,
But a winged breeze.

The Iron Maiden
Is difficult to clean well.
Starve the prisoners.

Cast your spells elsewhere
You have no power here, Witch!
Croaked an ugly frog.

The reunion ends
Glad to have seen each other
One very last time.

An iceberg ! at last!
Will provide us with fresh water,
less salty than blood.

For this modest gift,
He needs your invitation
To cross the threshold.

Earthworms are precious.
They keep soil broken and moist.
That we dig faster.

Damn these rank heathens,
No one innocent enough
To feed our angry King.

What cries ! from what beast?
Mortal heartbreak never knew
Such ungodly noise.

Beneath these floorboards
Faintly heard, much like breathing,
Or worse, a heartbeat.

At last, we are saved.
Prayers exhausted, the fog lifts,
Now we must turn back.

You ask about blood,
What tastes sweeter? What gives life?
Long delicious life.

These hills are rustic,
Old shacks, overgrown acres
Nobody, empty.

Hitchhiker, that’s odd,
I picked him up anyway
Said his name was Joe.

In one drawer: a nose,
In another drawer: a knife
On the floor: bleach stains.

Dawn. It’s time to go.
Please feed the cat, I will be
unavailable.
